Isaac had his 5 month well-child check up today. Daddy, Grandma Lucy, and Grandpa Ed all went while mommy worked.
He now weighs 16.5lbs and is 26.93inches long! He gained 1.5lbs and inches! Such a growing boy!!!!
The pediatrician said that he is definitely teething, though can't determine which tooth it is. But by the way he grabs things and stuffs them in his mouth to chew, that is a big sign. She recommended teething tablets and Motrin to help with the pain.
She also gave the thumbs up for starting rice cereal and Stage 1 baby foods :)
And lastly, she took a look at his chest (which has been red and itching him lately). He has a bit of eczema and combining that with the drool is causing a fungal infection. She is prescribing him an ointment to help with all of that so hopefully we will see some difference in the next week or so.
I think that's about it... I'll update with pictures later on :)

Bananas!
So I have been looking up information about signs that a baby is ready for solids/baby food.. Here is what I found:
Signs a baby is ready for solids:
Reading this, we decided last night to test out some REAL food on him, with bananas.
He loved them!
He didn't have very much and he had tiny amounts each spoonful, but he was all into it and leaning into the spoon whenever he saw it coming.
And of course, we have pictures :)
He has his pediatrician appointment tomorrow so we'll talk to her about starting him on a real food schedule. This was basically a test to see how his tongue reflex would do :)
Signs a baby is ready for solids:
- Head control. Your baby needs to be able to keep his head in a steady, upright position. - Check.
- Losing the "extrusion reflex." To keep solid food in his mouth and then swallow it, your baby needs to stop using his tongue to push food out of his mouth. - Check (he only did it once or twice.
- Sitting well when supported. Even if he's not quite ready for a highchair, your baby needs to be able to sit upright to swallow well. - Check
- Significant weight gain. Most babies are ready to eat solids when they've doubled their birth weight (or weigh about 15 pounds) and are at least 4 months old. - Check and check. We find out tomorrow how much he weighs, but it's probably around 16lbs. And he's 5 months old.
- Growing appetite. He seems hungry — even with eight to ten feedings of breast milk or formula a day. - Check
- Curiosity about what you're eating. Your baby may begin eyeing your bowl of rice or reaching for a forkful of fettuccine as it travels from your plate to your mouth. - BIG CHECK. Eating with him around has been very eventful haha

It's been a busy couple of weeks for the little guy! First, we had Grandma Deb and Aunt Beth visit us. Then we took a trip to the Big Island with Grandma Deb (pictures will be up soon, I swear!). Grandma Deb left on Sunday and on Monday (yes the next day) Grandma Lucy, Grandpa Ed, and Uncle Joey arrived :)
