Mommy's Birthday

So today was my first birthday as a mommy :) It started at 2am when Isaac woke up (after sleeping for 4 hours!!!) for a feeding. Then again at 4am and then he let me sleep in until almost 8 before his next one (he was actually awake at around 7:30 but grandma was holding him and he didn't mind waiting to eat apparently haha).

Matt made waffles with the new waffle maker he bought me for my birthday. It's a gift for me, but he will probably get the most use out of it.. which is fine by me as long as I get waffles! haha!! He also got me a new Disney movie on Blueray, Snow White. We want to collect all the Disney movies on Blueray so this was good :) The only thing I am a bit bummed about though, is that I ordered a Moby Wrap for myself through Babies R Us. According to the FedEx tracking site, they delivered it on Friday.. but we never got it. I was kinda thinking that Matt had it and was going to give it to me today as a gift for fun, but nope. It just never showed up! I called FedEx and they are going to contact the FedEx hub here in Honolulu and let them know I never got my package. They are supposed to call back... hopefully they find it and they send it to me.

In the afternoon, Mom, Mikee, Isaac and I went to Target (Matt decided to stay behind and get some Call of Duty gaming in lol). With money I got from various family members, I got myself four shirts, three shorts, and two bras. We also got Isaac an activity area. I had been meaning to get one since he has started liking to just hang out on the floor and look around. Below are some pictures:

He was really good at the store.. considering he slept the whole time. Of course, all the way home he was screaming his head off (he was hungry). So we hurried home. Poor boy worked himself into such a fit that he was soaked with sweat down his back (he was in his carseat which didn't help the sweat and the car was warm). His hair was drenched too :( So I changed his outfit so he wouldn't get cold with the wet clothes and then fed him.

We went out to dinner tonight to Red Lobster. I even put on make-up! WOohoo! Isaac did really good, as he was sleeping yet again. He fussed for a little bit when we first got there but then Matt was able to get him to fall asleep again and we were able to eat in peace. We had such fast service that we were in and out before Isaac started crying to eat (I had a bottle ready, just in case). He nursed once we got home though.

Also, all day today his feedings have been every 2.5hrs instead of every 2.. so he is starting to stretch them out!

We had cake and ice cream (yum!) then we gave him a bath... which went VERY well. He didn't cry at all. Not when we undressed him... not when we washed him... not when his hair got wet.. not even when he got out of the bath. He was so content and happy that he just sat in the bath for a good 5 minutes afterwards, babbling away to us while we poured water over his tummy and hair (so he wouldn't get cold). He also loves the hair dryer. We use it to make sure his hair gets fully dried, especially in the back where it's the thickest. We then run it along his tummy and legs and he just loves it (don't worry, we dont put it very close to his skin so it doesn't burn him). He nursed and is now tucked away in his crib, hopefully sleeping until 12 or 1am.

Since we didn't have to use the bottle today, we are saving it for tomorrow so that Matt and I can go to the movies and Grandma Teresa and Papa Mikee can watch him for us. Below is another picture with Isaac and Grandma T:

That was my birthday in a nutshell! Hope everyone else had a great day!

5 weeks old, Pediatrician Appointment & more grandparents!

Today Isaac is 5 weeks old! YAY! Look at the growing (sleeping) boy:

So aside from turning 5 weeks old, Isaac also had his pediatrician appointment today.
He now weighs 9lbs 2oz and its 20.25 inches long!!! For some reason I thought he wasn't even past 8lbs yet!

So this is the information that I got from the doctor:
He is growing very well and my milk is definitely feeding him.

He has a small hernia by his belly button, that is two fingers wide. It's not an issue and will most likely clear itself by the time he is 9 month old. It's also very common with babies. The only reason it would be a concern is if he starts screaming in pain and the hernia is hard (its currently soft). That means it got snagged on something and he will need to go to the ER. It's rare that that happens though so I think we will be ok. One thing that will help him is letting him lay on his back, which is actually something he likes to do. He'll just lay on a blanket on the floor and look around and babble for up to a half hour.

She confirmed that he has colic, just by telling her all that happens with him. There really isn't anything we can do for it, aside from just helping him work out the gas from his system. It usually lasts 3 months, so we just have two more months to go.. woohoo?
She also said that since he is still gassy even though I took out milk from my diet more then 3 weeks ago, then most likely milk is not the issue and I should put it back in my diet. If I'm not getting calcium, he's not getting it either.

And last, his poop issues are mainly because I am still not drinking enough water. So I need to drink more and more. She also said that if he goes two days without going, that I can use baby suppositories for him and help him go (he went another 2.5days without going and was miserable until 10pm last night when he FINALLY went).

In fun news, Grandma Teresa (Grandma T) and Papa Mikee are visiting!

They've already had an introduction to Colicy Isaac last night haha! And believe it or not, this was Mikee's first time holding a baby! Next up, diaper changing! hahahah!

Beach and Bath time

So in my earlier post today, I said that we were going to the beach for all day event and that we would take lots of pictures...
Well, we DID go to the beach, but there are no pictures. I left the camera at home by accident. We had the video camera, but it was in the stroller carrier which was hard to get to because Isaac was in the stroller sleeping and it was laying all the way down.
The beach outing went well. We were actually in a park type area near the beach. Isaac slept practically the whole time, except for waking up to eat (he was sleeping so well out there that he went 3.5hrs between feedings!). The only problem was it was SO WINDY! He was in such a cute outfit today too, but I ended up changing him into a long-sleeve onsie, pants, beanie, and bundled in a blanket. We put more blankets over the stroller so that he was cocooned from the sun and wind. It also rained on us for about 10 minutes really, really hard, but he was perfectly safe and slept right through it.

Here is the outfit he WAS wearing:

 Cute, right??

When we got home, we decided to give him a quick bath because he had sunblock on him (as well as some spit up, ew). We got a new bathtub for him the other day, which he like much better then the old one, and we think he is much more stable in it (and warmer because he is submerged in water).. we even have pictures now!

*Warning: little boy parts visible in the first picture!*

(He didn't like his hair getting wet apparently)

And last, but not least, this is how find Isaac most of the time in his crib when he wakes up... please note that when I lay him in the crib, it's in the center, and then he gradually shifts himself, and the sleep positioner, to this:

I am debating if I should take out the bumper now or not...his face has never been smashed up against it, only the top of his head (like in the pictures). I just don't want him to bump his head and hurt himself... but at the same time, all the SIDS prevention websites to say to take out the bumpers...suggestions??

Sleep, poop, and "the lip"

Sleep
So the sleeping schedule has become MUCH better the past week. Instead of going to bed at 8 and waking up at 10, 12, 2, 4, 6, etc... he now goes to bed at 8, but usually sleeps until 11:30-12am before his first wake up. The next one is around 3 or 4 and the one after that is about 6 or 7. If I am lucky, I can get him to go back to bed until 9 or 10. I have noticed a definite improvement on my stress level, so this new schedule is working out perfectly.

Poop
So we had a bit of a "poop" issue with Isaac, in that he just couldn't go... He went on Sunday and then nothing on Monday or Tuesday. I have read everywhere that sometimes breastfed babies can go a few days without going and it isn't cause for concern, but it was the fact that he was pushing and straining for a few days that made me know he was miserable. I called the pediatrician office and they told me to call them on Thursday morning if he hadn't gone by then and they would help him go. Well, Wednesday night he FINALLY went. It wasn't much and I KNEW he had more stored up.... at his midnight feeding, he had a very loaded diaper. Even though it was gross, I was so happy. And then Thursday he had two good poops.. one of which went all the up the front of him, past his belly button. Ewww. I told him to save the rest of his poops for daddy haha.

"The Lip"
So whenever Isaac cries, he lets out his bottom lip towards the end. It's so very cute even though he is so very sad/mad. We can never time it right to get it camera, but I finally did!

See??? Totally cute!

And if you are curious about his cry progression.. here it is!

Hehe... bad mommy.. taking pictures while he's crying... he does it so much though, I figured I should get documentation!

Anyways, today we heading out to Bellow's beach for a picnic thing with Matt's work. We will be there basically all day. I really hope today is one of Isaac's good days! And don't worry, we'll be taking lots of pictures and hopefully some videos too!

1 Month Old!!!

Isaac is one month old today! Here are a few pictures taken today:

Update on all of us: Well, Isaac still goes through spells where all he does is cry... for hours on end. The other day he cried for 4 hours (and yes, he was fed, changed, burped, everything). Outings are still limited to about an hour, if we are lucky, before he has a melt down as well. I'm going to talk to his pediatrician about colic and also reflux, as he shows signs of both (from what I read doing online research). I've cut out all dairy from my diet and staying away from onions, tomatoes, and veggies that cause gas in case that has anything to do with it.

Last night was rather nice though. He ate at 8, and was in bed by 8:40. He didn't wake again until 12! It took until 1:30 to get him back to bed (I think he was gassy) but then he didn't wake up again until 4am! Next wake up was 6am, again due to gas though. He fed until after 7, but was still fussy so we snuggled up in mommy's bed and we slept until 10. I'm hoping he continues this type of sleep schedule, but for all I know, it was just a one-time deal... after all, he had a crying fit yesterday for 4 hours before bed so that might have had something to do with it.

Some new things that Isaac does:
He smiles more now (when he's in a good mood of course) and reacts to people talking to him.
He likes to track toys/objects now and even smiles at them.
He even likes to just chill on the floor and look around, sometimes babbling away to no one in particular. It's almost time to invest in one of those play mat things for him.

We are currently downloading all the video clips from the video camera so keep an eye out for a post filled with new videos in the next couple of days!

3 Weeks Old!

Well, we survived one more week with the little guy! Below are some pictures taken today :)

And here are some pics of him sporting his new beanies from Grandma Deb!

So as an update on us:
Some days are better then others. The days that are most trying are the ones where he decides he doesn't want to nap for 3-6hours and will cry the whole time instead. I guess it's a good thing that that happens during the day and not in the middle of the night.. .otherwise mommy will be going (even more) insane! It's just hard to know what exactly is wrong. Is it gas? Is he overly tired? Is he (STILL?) hungry? Is it something we cant detect? My biggest question is: is this the beginning colic?? Everyone says it will get better and he won't always have these crying spells... I cant wait for those days! haha.. One trick I did find was to just step outside with him.. he stops crying almost instantly. But the moment we walk back into the house, its crying time. Same thing if we go for walks. He starts off crying, but eventually gets lulled to sleep. When we enter the house, even if the stroller is still moving, he starts to whimper then cry. That's what happened yesterday. Thankfully, when we got home, it was time for another feeding and he finally went to sleep after that.

Sleep schedule is still doing alright. Most of the time he goes 2 hours between feedings (the start of one feeding to the start of the next, so that means if he starts at 10pm and feeds until 10:30, and finally falls asleep by 11, he'll probably be up again at 12 or 12:30 for the next feeding). There are rare occasions where he will go 3 or even 3.5hours, but that is really rare.

It's not all bad though! He does stay awake for an hour or so in the mornings and in the evenings where he is very content and just looking around and giving us the rare smile, which is very hard to capture on camera but below is one that I happened to get at the end of one:

I cant wait until he gets even more interactive! (and sleeps longer..haha).

Oh, one more thing...we gave him his very first bath on Friday night! No pictures though, sorry! :( He was crying the whole time and was wiggling around so one of us had to always hold him while the other washed him. Hopefully next time, or the time after that we can get some pics!

I cannot wait for the other grandma's to come out and visit!! Just two weeks until Grandma T and Papa Mikee will be here, and then a week later, Grandma Deb will be here!

Belly Button!

So yesterday the pediatrician said that Isaac's cord stump will most likely fall off in the next 4-5 days. So it was a great surprise to us when we looked at it this morning and it was just hanging there by one little string! By the afternoon, it completely fell off on its own!

You know what this means?! He can finally have a REAL BATH!!!! Yay!!!!

Isaac's two week appointment

So today was Isaac's 2 week well-child checkup. He is now weighing in at 7lbs 2.5oz and 19.5 inches long! Just 2.3 more ounces and he will be 1 whole pound over his birth weight and he has already grown one inch since birth! Such a big boy!!! :)

I think he is going through a growth spurt (still/again)... He's eating basically every 2 hours on the dot and sometimes it takes him 30 minutes or more to get full.  I feel like all I ever do is feed this kid! At night I am using pumped breastmilk and he will drink 2.5oz at a time. Pretty soon he'll be onto 3oz I bet.

Lucy leaves tomorrow.. :( She has been a HUGE help in letting Matt and I get some rest. But now I must get back on to midnight feeding patrol again. I woke up last night with him and had her give me pointers that she did to help him fall/stay asleep at night. I'm just waiting on the days (er, nights) that he starts sleeping 4-5hours at a time, instead of 2 and a half (if I am lucky, 3 hours tops).

In two weeks Mom and Mike come to visit, then after they leave, Matt's mom, Deb, will be here for a week as well. Yay!

2 Week Old!

So Isaac is two weeks old today!!! He's getting so big... well, he's still tiny, but he's eating more (at least 2.5oz) and sleeping a bit better too. Below are pictures taken today for his two week photo session (taken by Grandma Lucy and myself)
